The aids to diagnosis that we use are increasingly rapidly. Dermoscopy and histopathology have a well-established role but advances in digital imaging and confocal microscopy are now coming onto the scene. Having said that, careful and thorough clinical assessment based on comprehensive patient history and full skin examination aided by good lighting and magnification remain crucial.
